How do you use a spiral vegetable pasta cutter?
While there are a few different variations of the spiralizing vegetable slicer, the functionality is relatively similar. Basically, the end of your vegetable is placed flat against a horizontal blade. The vegetable is then twisted against the blade which cuts it in a thin, spiraling fashion producing a spiraled or shaved cut, depending on the blades. Some variations of the spiralizer come with different sized and shaped blades that produce cuts of different size, thickness, and appearance. No matter the blade type, the ending results are beautiful, curled strips of veggie that are great for pasta substitutions, homemade fries, or gorgeous salad creations.
What are the different design options for a vegetable spiralizer?
As mentioned, there are a couple of different variations of the veggie spiralizer which vary in function and price. A handheld spiralizer is the simplest form and it also tends to be more economical and take up less space in your kitchen. It typically has open blades at one end where you place your veggies. You simply press the vegetable against the blades, twist, and the spiral cut veggies come out of the other end. Easy peasy! While this type of spiralizer is cheaper and more compact, it can be more difficult to use since you are twisting by hand, and it is not as versatile with the types of veggies you can use as the entry point of the uncut vegetable is a set size.
